I have been very reluctant to talk about my experience publicly as most of my circles are focused on body liberation, haes, and there has been a lot of shit talk about GLPs. It has changed my life the better! 55 pounds down in 7 months but I also see my disordered eating creeping back in as I am being very intentional about getting enough protein, fiber, being in a calorie deficit, etc. I haven't found a nuanced way to discuss it, and most of the folks I follow online don't approach body politics through feminism so I appreciate you sharing your experiences.

Also definitely strength train if you can! It will make a big difference so you don't lose muscle.

Thanks for opening up about your experience. I’ve been on Zepbound for just under a year, have lost about 50lbs. This is my first go-around with any sort of medication and I was shocked at how quickly and effectively it worked. The grief of losing food as an emotional crutch was real - food was like, my primary hobby!

I am falling short in that I haven’t done the work to actually change my habits (just relying on the desire to eat less) so I fear that should my insurance stop covering it and I go off, I may lose all this progress. So that is what I plan to work on in this next year.

Hi Sami. I just started Zepbound on Friday and it has literally changed the way I think about (or don’t) food. Thank you for this incredible post. It describes so much of how I'm feeling. Congrats on taking this leap towards better health.

The voice telling me not to build another cracker tower lives in others heads too?! Good to know 🤣

Goodness gracious that “Mom’s ability to notice a 1-2 lb difference” took me back to my adolescence in a visceral way.

Thanks for sharing your journey.

Thanks for sharing your experience! I’ve followed your journey around food for awhile. I started wegovey (then switched to zepbound because of insurance) about a year ago. I also have PCOS and it’s been amazing for me but I struggle with random people commenting on my weight loss and wanting to know what I changed to lose the weight. I’m open about the shots with friends and my family but when random coworkers ask it feels weird to bring up.

Thank you so much for this! I’m a bit nervous and starting this week but have loved your approach generally to this issue so wanted to check in on how it worked for you!

Thank you for your thoughts. I'm starting Zepbound today following an unsuccessful stint on Ozempic awhile back. I was also diagnosed with subclinical Cushing's Syndrome, so my endocrinologist sanctioned the Zepbound (which, strangely enough, is not what you call it when you are en route to see Led Zeppelin play), and we will have a conversation about long-term treatment of the Cushing's, which may involve removal of an adenoma on one of my adrenal glands.

Thank you so much for sharing! I started a GLP-1 around the same time and really relate to everything about your post and appreciate your openness and look forward to if you decide to share more later.

Do you feel at all concerned about the, for lack of a better word (if these even is a word), “drasticness” of the weight loss? 25 pounds in two months is SO much weight in barely any time at all. I’m on Tirzepetide and I’ve lost 24 lbs in 3 months which to me seems a little more realistic. This is absolutely NOT a judgement!! I’m just curious - I always have such a concern that there is truly no way to sustain this. Maybe I’ll be 60lbs thinner in 6 months but then what?

While I am surprised I’m not concerned bc I’m still at a very “familiar” size for myself, which I suspect could be why my body reverted to that pretty smoothly. Also 25 is just an estimate based on my clothes and I don’t take it as a judgment! I admittedly don’t know what I will do past a certain point but I feel comfortable waiting to see what my doctor says. I know someone who went to this doctor and she did not encourage continuous weight loss past a certain point.

This makes total sense, especially that first part! Looking forward to seeing what the rest of your journey looks like :)
